Questions to Consider Before Setting Up a UAE Company

A short internal checklist that saves time later - covering activity, ownership, banking readiness, staffing and the documents you will be asked for.

Most setup delays are not caused by the registration itself. They are caused by decisions that were left open until an authority, a bank or a landlord asked for an answer. Working through the questions below before you begin makes the process considerably calmer.

1. What exactly will the company do?

Licensed activities have to be described precisely. A general idea such as 'consulting' or 'trading' is rarely enough. Draft a clear description of your revenue-generating activities, including anything you may add within the next year.

2. Who owns it, and in what proportion?

Shareholding, roles and signing authority should be agreed between founders in advance. Changing them after incorporation is possible but involves additional documentation.

3. Are your documents ready and consistent?

  • Passports valid well beyond the application period
  • Names spelled identically across every document
  • Corporate documents attested where required for corporate shareholders
  • A clear, written description of the business model for banking review

4. How will the business be banked?

Banking is a separate process from licensing, with its own review. Businesses that can explain their customers, suppliers and expected transaction flows in plain language tend to have a smoother experience.

5. Who needs residency, and when?

Founders, employees and family members may all need to be sequenced alongside the licence. Deciding this early lets the whole plan run in parallel rather than one step at a time.
